DONALD B. LANE

While in college Donald B. Lane began to develop his skills by working as a kitchen designer for a major retailer, as he was studying Design and Fine Art. 

He then went to work for BARKER BROTHERS FINE FURNITURE STORES in Los Angeles, California as “Display Director” for all 13 stores (the youngest person to hold such a position within the 100 year old company). With responsibilities that included model rooms, store layouts and special promotional window displays.  He went on to work with the Store Planning department in designing two new stores.  He also worked with the advertising department in setting up photo shoots for print  and television advertisements.

From there he was hired by FEDERATED DEPARTMENT STORES, INC. as “Home Fashions Coordinator” , “Buyer” and the “Director of the Interior Design Studio”, for their Tucson, Arizona operation.  His duties includes coordinating merchandise assortments throughout the home store, buyer for pictures, lamps and decorative accessories and managing 4 interior designers and the in store Design Studio.

Mr. Lane then returned to Los Angeles where he was “Art Director” and “Showroom Manager” for CELIA, INC. (a high-end custom area rug manufacturer).  Working with Interior Designers and Retailers in developing custom area rugs and custom carpet designs for their clients. He also designed custom area rug collections for several furniture stores and flooring retailers.

CELIA, INC. was purchased by FABRICA INTERNATIONAL  (a high-end manufacturer of broadloom carpeting).  As “Director of Design” and “Director of Costing” for Fabrica,  Mr. Lane honed his skills in the manufacturing end of the Home furnishings industry.  As Art Director he designed Fabrica’s custom area rug program, which is still one of the most copied collections in the industry. 

While with FABRICA INTERNATIONAL,Mr. Lane was privileged to travel to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates to design custom wall to wall carpets for   Sheik Mohammed al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai for his private summer palace and a guest home on al Halil Island in the Persian Gulf.  This project was the largest single project in Fabrica’s history.  He also worked closely with the United States State Departments / Interior Design branch in designing custom carpets for Embassies and Diplomat homes throughout the world.

In 1996 Mr. Lane opened his own design firm in Long Beach, California with a retail furniture store and design studio, BOULEVARD COLLECTIONS & DESIGN. 

After 7 years of having a retail operation Mr. Lane chose to devote himself fully to his Interior Design clientele and opened DONALD B. LANE INTERIORS.  Along with many residential projects in many different states he has also completed many retail stores, offices and community development projects.

Currently Mr. Lane is a consultant with DirectBuy, assisting clients with custom Kitchen cabinetry. Designing custom kitchens across the United States

DONALD B. LANE INTERIORS has won numerous  awards and has been published in several Interior Design and Home Furnishings magazines and publications, including the Long Beach Business Journal, Orange County Home Magazine, Orange Coast Magazine, Home Furnishings Daily and Design Source Directory.

Mr. Lane continues to grow and develop his knowledge of Interior Design trends and current technology by attending seminars and taking specialized classes at Long Beach City College.
